How Much Does it Cost to Travel to North Korea?

April 17, 2008

kim jong ilI recently got in touch with a North Korean travel agency to ask them details on how I could get over there for a tour (which they allow usually once a year to a limited number of tourists), and I also asked how much the trip would cost. They sent me a lengthy response with several details, but replied that: “Our tours are the least expensive on the market and cost $2,990 all inclusive from Beijing to North Korea”. North Korea by the way, also known as Democratic People’s Republic of Korea , is a Nation ruled by a Stalinist dictatorship, masterminded by the notorious Kim Jong-il. But just like with everything else, there is always a price tag involved, and the price tag you are looking for top notch North Korean travel is around 3 grand. Now keep in mind that this is not a good vacation idea for someone who is proclaiming to be a journalist or some political activist who may impose propaganda on the finely trained North Korean society.

I personally love travel and have always wanted to visit several strange places like North Korea, but not for the scenery. I must say that traveling to the DPRK would be a unique experience and would remain an amazing story to tell future generations about. There is truly nothing like the backwards lifestyle and controlling fascist system that is in place right now as we live and breath. And as if mind controlled oppression wasn’t enough, there is also speculation (facts) that claim North Korea as having many political prisoner camps for anyone who does not “stay in line” with the communist play book. It is estimated that at least 1 million people have been murdered at these types of camps, mostly for having opinions that differ from their cult-like government. And you thought your day was bad.
